CURRENT INSPO

Some current inspo whilst I’ve fallen off the radar for the week. If you follow me on Instagram you’ll know I just returned from 32 hours in the countryside for my Mum’s birthday and brothers graduation, double celebrations! It was so nice to get out of London for a day, especially with the Olympic crowds building. London certainly feels more hectic than usual, can I say I’m jealous to those who got out whilst they still could?

SPRING INSPIRATION

Some images I’m finding inspiring for SS13, being frantically pinned on my Pinterest boards. I’m getting excited about starting the new season and have plenty of exciting design ideas coming to mind, with HPR meetings and possible designer collaborations on the headlines; it’s all just a few months away, but for now let’s just look at these relaxing images and think fluffy thoughts. Hope you all had a great weekend!

ONE OF SEVEN

Last night Selfridges hosted a night of short films to celebrate the opening of their new Womens Designer Galleries; their were 7 short films created to sum up the ideal woman behind the labels, such as this one for Ann Demeulemeester; directed by Michael C. Pitt featuring Jamie Bochert. Other designers included were Rick Owens, Gareth Pugh and Dries Van Noten. The film project will be at The Old Selfridges Hotel until the 25th March, but you can view the seven films online here.

ACNE BETTER LATE THAN NEVER

I’d been meaning to do this Yellow Door press day/Acne post for a while, but after getting my new camera I stashed my old one out of sight and only just found it, it’s memory card full with last seasons press days. It must be my senile old blogger age, but I thought better late than never; plus everything you see here is available to buy now! Which is always a plus.

The leather jackets and shoes from Acne are always my favourite and this season, I fell in love particularly with the white leather pieces and the platform shoes, I’m in love with Ivania’s suede pair more than the blue silk, and even more with these mid calf boots. I found one style to be a bit of a Simone Rocha rip off (the high heeled brogue) but other than that thumbs up all round.

I warn you there may be more of these belated press days to come (sorry!) but I do quite like seeing the garments and accessories without a body to cloud your judgement; pure design appreciation is what I’m after.

NICOLAS ANDREAS TARALIS SS12

I don’t know how I’ve gone so long without knowing about this guy but I discovered Nicolas Andreas Taralis randomly this morning, whilst trawling through the final markdowns online. You can watch the video to this collection on his website and watching the way the clothes move, will make you fall in love for sure. The concept for Nicolas is simplicity; clothes stripped back to their most natural form. I’m not talking about this specific collection, which has sci-fi influences but the general aesthetic. The styling is so paired back it feels like you can wear the pieces right off the runway. I’ve been hunting to find better images for the SS12 shoes too, but above was all I could find. Still totally amazing, of course but I want to see more of the knee high white cut out boots!

SPRING BREEZE

Stylist: Alastair McKimm
Model: Daphne Groeneveld

How I wish it was spring already! I couldn’t resist posting this as it’s literally the most perfect editorial I’ve seen in a long time. I want it all! Top of the agenda is that Givenchy shark tooth necklace, looks so good worn with loose pastels and whites.

A SEED CAN’T HELP BUT RISE UP

The work of Egle Cekanaviciute, found whilst stumbling through another new discovery drkmttr blog – a must go to for interior inspiration, Egle’s 6 piece collection focuses on the idea that the human species are powerless against nature. Basic minimal silhouettes have been created out of materials such as potato sacks or tailoring canvas, and distorted to make room for the growing plants that have seeded in amongst the fabric. The whole idea is beautiful and poignant, I’ve been thinking a lot about nature recently and this marries my two loves of nature and fashion beautifully.

STREET WEAR

How incredible are these boots from Givenchy pre fall? Gimme gimme gimme! The black pony/calf hair pair are my favourite. The whole collection offered an alternative to the S/S 12 collection. Those low sharky lapels; long dangling necklaces – this time a deer horn, not so keen, but there are some shark teeth in choker form which I love; the boxy envelope clutches; and the dangling bow drape blouses. Givenchy are at the top for me right now.

MINIMALISTE

Introduced to the Tumblr MINIMALISTE, by Ivania, it’s been a great source of inspiration for my AW12. Looking at vast landscapes of sea and ice, with clear open skies and oceans has given me a great deal to think about. Going down to Devon for the holidays I felt like I had to visit this place, one of my favourites, with vast cliffs that you can climb and explore all day, with waves crashing all around you. So far removed from life, it makes me feel alive.
